Default 50+??

Was looking at getting into a Terraway group for UW. The E/Mo build is mindless. The group leader asked me to "show" 50+.

What did he expect me to "show" him. Gold, ecto, raven staves, lol?

ghastly summoning stones - you get them for completing uw.

frankly I stay away from elitist snobs who ask you to show stones - they aren't in the game for fun and they make it miserable.

I can't blame them for wanting to get the best players possible, but their method is seriously flawed.

Not that I am defending the practice but most, not all but the majority, of the people who have enough money to blow on that many stones (which are really useless outside of this) will probably have enough experience farming to understand the basics needed to make it through.
While this doesn't hold true all the times it is really the only way to filter out people who just got the build of wiki and decided they could get into a group without telling them they have never done it before.
Personally I usually take the time to teach people who are new as long as they listen.
But lets take a look at what this is - Underworld Speed Clear
the name lets you know that it is a speed clear and therefore the goal is to get the shortest time possible. This means picking up a first timer who has no idea of the spawns, pops-ups, and strategies will drastically slow you down in not cause you to fail completely. I understand this and when I go into a new SC pug in an area/role I have not done before I let them know. If they kick me I understand and either look for another group or try to get a guild group to help me learn.
While I still think it is lame to ask to show stones I would bet that most of the people that can't get into groups are the ones who don't know what they are doing anyway. If they took some time to learn it they would already have friends they could go with

Its lack of communication yet again, players fail to ask for what they want.
Then either cause or give offence when they link up.

i wonder how long an asshole like that has to wait for people to show their +50's rather than just talking to them for a few mins and seeing if it is worth taking them on the run and teaching them. you never know, he could teach that person and then have someone who is reliable to call upon for a speed clear any time they want...

but screw that right... i'm too busy forming an elite group of people i dont know rather than just teach people i do...

people moan about gvgers being elitist... then you have this bull crap which is seen as ok, because, 'I dont have time for clueless scrubs'

Ahh, the catch 22 of elitism. People who want to learn can't because no one trusts them enough to give them a chance to teach them. And no one gives them a chance to teach them because they're new/havent done it before. Idk about anyone else on here but when I go in urgoz or anywhere I dont know that well I stay in the back and don't run around like a retard. I hate it when people do crap like that too because it means I can't ever get out of the gap of confusion/not knowing how to do things because no one wants to take a trip or even a few minutes to show me.

You realize that in this statement you proved my point that it's a catch 22 right?

I just got back to guild wars after 2 years of being away (lost internet, had no money, etc) and I'm very far behind. None of my friends are on anymore and so, while I have done UW runs and FoW runs and Urgoz etc, that doesn't make it any easier to get into said groups. I'm not even just talking speed clears. Not that pugs are fun, but you get my point. To get in it you have to prove you've been in it before- there's no room for those who want to learn. Unless you're lucky enough to have a big enough guild someone will take you along.

There will always be some groups that do not require proof of how experienced you are.

I'd rather take some guy who has played and beaten the UW multiple times in 4+ years of playing GW then some guy who has farmed the crud out of UW in the last few months (since stones have been added) using some FotM build.

Sure, the FotM farmer guy might be familiar with the build, but he's not a better or more experienced player then the other guy. The other player is still probably smarter in terms of aggro, positioning, and smart skill usage. And when there is a nerf, he's the guy who will come up with a new build while the farmer will be the one who comes to the forums to complain.

Stones are stupid not only because they are transferable but because they don't even count all the times you've done it before they were added. In that way, it's even worse then the HA title.

This.

It was painfully evident with 55 monks (and still is, actually) and I'll bet it's the same way here.

"HAI guyz. No worrz im a 55 i can do this."

"WATS GOIN ON" -- *ZIPZILCHRIPENCHANTMENTSFIZZLE*

"u guys r noobs u aggroed in the aggro. go lern2play"

Just makes me think of that scenario.
